Sold out! Kate's $1,200 Wimbledon dress is a hit

The Duchess of Cambridge has sold out yet another designer dress. In a trip to Wimbledon to watch British tennis hopeful Andy Murray, the newlywed donned a white pleated sleeveless three-tiered dress by Temperley, by London’s Alice Temperley.

It took only 30 minutes for the frock to disappear online.
“Unfortunately we've now sold out of the Moriah Dress but we have plenty of other Temperley London pieces in, so be sure to get them now before they dissapear (sic).Radiant Square Mermaid Dress holding Embroidery. You may not get the press attention that Kate does, but you'll definitely turn heads,” read the message on the cSee online store. The dress isn't listed on Temperley's U.K. site.
It is not known if Kate paid full price for the frock -- $1,272 -- or if she picked it up in the summer sale for $632. The Moraiah dress is still available in black on the designer’s U.S. website for $660. Kate paired the dress with nude heels she has been seen in several times.
Her unofficial endorsement is proving to be the best advertising U.K. designers and brands can get. Practically every dress she wears, regardless of the price, sells out online within minutes, including the $1,040 Burberry coat she wore on a trip to Ireland in March.
Photos of the duchess wearing a Reiss bandage dress while meeting Michelle Obama in May prompted a run on the store’s site, crashing it for several hours.
Monday marked Kate’s first time sitting in the royals’ box at Wimbledon, although it isn’t her first time at the tournament. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club recently displayed a thank-you note that Kate sent in 2008 – spelling mistake and all.
“Thank you for your kind hospitality at Wimbledon last week,” she wrote. “My friend and I had such a fantastic time and it was great to be able to enjoy the day knowing that we could have a little peace and quite (sic) if things got a little too hectic.”

How safe is downtown Reno nightlife?

The shooting at the Freight House District, outside Aces Ballpark, certainly raises many questions.

For starters, some are asking how safe is downtown Reno late at night, and should bars do more to keep their patrons safe? And what about those nightspots which have not always had a preputation -- are they any safer?
While the shooting highlights the potential dangers of late night drinking, there a few nightspots which have worked to improve their image, and downtown safety.
Go back to early May of last year. Police tape lined the perimeter of West Second Street Bar. Bullet casings lay on the ground.
And detectives investigated. A late night fight outside West Second Street led to three men firing handguns; four people were sent to the hospital. It wasn't the first violent incident here.
The city council ultimately revoked the bar's liquor license temporarily. And city officials urged that the bar make some changes. And the bar's manager says those changes have taken place.
"We have done things differently, we've been patting people down at the door really well, we're making sure our sidewalks are clear," said manager Russell Cowan.
"You've been more diligent when it comes to security?" asked reporter Andrew Del Greco.
"Yes, definitely, we have been," said Cowan.
Councilman Dan Gustin, whose ward includes West Second Street Bar, agrees the bar has done better.
"I do, I think they're working on it, it's a work in progress, they're slowly putting it together, they're aware of it now because all the people telling them what they need to do, they've been more responsive," said Gustin.

"Sexist" skirt rule remains in limbo

Badminton's controversial 'skirt rule' has not been scrapped but is merely in limbo while officials wait for more consultation after initial feedback deemed it sexist, the governing body told Reuters Thursday.

A new Badminton World Federation (BWF) code had required all female players to wear skirts or dresses in major tournaments in order to "to ensure attractive presentation of badminton," but the rule has not been implemented after an outcry.

This week's Singapore Open had been slated as the first tournament to implement the rule, but marketing manager for the BWF's Super Series S.Selvam said a decision was in limbo.

"The rule has been deferred until we get another proposal from the women's commission," Selvam said at the city state's Indoor Stadium.

"There was a lot of feedback from players. But a lot of the feedback actually came from the public saying that it was too sexist," he continued.
The legislation -- that stipulates female players must wear a skirt during competition even if they also wear shorts -- is to be reassessed in December.

"What was decided was to get the women's commission and the ethnic scholarship to gather feedback from manufacturers, players and other interested parties, and to come up with another proposal for the best dress code for female and male players," Selvam added.

Bipartisanship Is Alive and Well!

Members of the U.S. Congress put aside their partisan differences tonight in favor of “corny dogs,” funnel cake, and “chicken in a basket” at the annual congressional picnic at the White House.

“We don’t want to make a long speech, but I do hope that the spirit of community that is so evident on a day like today, that this carries over each and every day.  We've got Democrats here and the Republicans here, and we all have differences on issues at every given moment, but the one thing that we have to remind ourselves every day is we’re all Americans and we’re all part of the American family,” President Obama said in his opening remarks standing alongside the first lady, dressed in a blue and white stripped sun dress.
The president said the event was a chance to thank the families of the members of Congress.
“This is always one of the best events of the year for us, mainly because with all the work that we do with members of Congress and their staffs, all too often we don’t get a chance to say thank you to the families,” he said.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was spotted chatting with House Majority Leader Eric Canter, R-Va.,  Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., was seen dancing with his wife, and Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, was caught lighting up a cigarette (a rare public sight).
Tables covered in yellow and blue checkered tablecloths dotted the south lawn and a U.S. Navy band played blue grass and patriot country music to complete the “State Fair” theme. Activities included a pie throwing contest and a three-legged race.
“You guys have fun.  And I want you guys to eat until you can’t eat any more.  All right?  And then tomorrow you can ‘Let’s Move,’” the president said.
